re: “Unacceptable”

ACT LOCAL:
- Please advise me on what to do regarding the new smoke detector sounding the alarm every time I cook.
- Should we
- replace the overly sensitive smoke detector installed Tuesday?
- install a fan & hood over the stove? {{xref: vacuum in hall}}
- move the location of the smoke detector?
- cover the smoke detector with a plastic bag while I’m cooking and remember to remove it when I’m done?
- The alarm does not respond when the button is pushed.
- It takes minutes to stop after windows are opened.
- The constant false positives will condition my neighbors to ignore the alarm when I am not here.
THINK GLOBAL:
- After THREE (3) minutes, or less, should all smoke detectors trigger the main fire alarm in the building?
- Instead of the chip memory voice saying,
- “Fire, fire, fire…” or
- “Carbon Monoxide…”
- “Fire, fire, fire…” or
- It might be more useful for the chip memory to dial the cellphone of the occupant AND
- announce via the speaker in the smoke detector:
- “11:33:10 AM. Temperature 78* Fahrenheit. Smoke level 20%.
- If resent button is not pushed within THREE (3) minutes, main building alarm will ring and
- the fire department will be called in T minus five minutes and counting.
- “11:33:20 AM. Temperature 80* Fahrenheit. Smoke level 22%.
- If resent button is not pushed within ONE (1) minute, main building alarm will ring and
- you will be billed for the fire department response [vacuum starts in hall]
- If resent button is not pushed within ONE (1) minute, main building alarm will ring and
- “11:33:30 AM. Temperature 79* Fahrenheit. Smoke level 21%.
- If reset button is not pushed within TWO (2) minutes and THIRTY (30) seconds, main building alarm will ring and
- you will be billed for the fire department response.
- If reset button is not pushed within TWO (2) minutes and THIRTY (30) seconds, main building alarm will ring and
- 11:33:40 AM. Temperature 80*. Smoke level 23%.
- If reset button is not pushed within THIRTY (30) seconds, main building alarm will ring,
- property manager will be called, and
- you will be billed for the fire department response.
